questionnaire

This questionnaire was published over a relatively short period of time, with a sample size of 50 people. The majority of them experienced the longest period of isolation between 0-14 days.

The majority of questionnaire respondents felt that isolation had no impact on social cohesion in China. The rest thought that segregation had slightly more negative than positive effects on social cohesion(Mean value of 2.94).

It is worth noting that people with 0-14 days of isolation perceive the negative impact of isolation on social cohesion to be slightly greater than the positive impact(Mean value of 2.94); those with 14-30 days of isolation perceive the positive impact to be slightly greater than the negative impact(Mean value of 3.22); and those with more than 30 days of isolation perceive the negative impact of isolation on social cohesion to be greater than the positive impact(Mean value of 2.75).

When mentioning Chinese social cohesion, most first thoughts are unity, patriotism, nationhood and responsibility. Chinese social cohesion is very powerful in planning overall goals, but it has less capacity to discipline individuals, so I think we should focus on the discipline of social cohesion on individual behaviour.

Most people believe that increased social cohesion can reduce the incidence of social violence.

The reason why I want to ask this question is because of a very serious incident of social violence in China in Tangshan, Hebei. It is a very distressing video that has caused a lot of controversy. The video reads roughly woman was  brutally beaten because she rejected a man’s sexual harassment. Her friends try to help her, but they too are attacked by the man and his friends. It was an incident in which a group of men assaulted four women.

I believe that a good social cohesion is one in which individual behaviour is restrained, in which there is no potential for social conflict, in which groups respect each other and help each other and bond together. And with this incident we need to improve, we need to do better.
